I think it's safe to say in the modern era, a once wealthy and now downtrodden athlete can actually muster a type of "brand" renaissance when at one time such a feat would have been inconceivable. At the height of Mike Tyson's athletic prowess, his personal fortune was estimated to be somewhere north of 300 million dollars. Unfortunately, after years of dubious mental stability, personal tragedies, incarceration, bad marriages and financial mismanagement-Team Tyson returns via the magic of creative branding. Tyson bears the fortunate distinction of existing in a world where name recognition, social media content and sponsorship with the assistance of a shrewd marketing machine can rehabilitate just about anyone that has fallen from grace (just ask Paula Deen). After viewing Adult Swim's Mike Tyson Mysteries (the titular character voiced by Tyson himself), I must admit that I was thoroughly amused and wondering if a Scooby-Doo crossover is in the works (despite the adult content, it definitely channels the 70s legendary Hanna Barbera series). For additional thoughts on Tyson Mysteries, check out The Hollywood Reporter's review and better yet, the first episode is available for viewing, courtesy of Youtube (below):
